currently reading: 1) can i keep my jersey by paul shirley. this guy played professional (not NBA, but professional in the deplorable sense that i call myself a professional) basketball for four years overseas. like you do when athletics in various countries is your livlihood, the guy has some interesting stories that i can relate to on so many levels that i feel like i should call him up and exchange stories/tell him to stop complaining cuz he still made more money than i do. 2) a biography of stalin. while i am reading it and another book on the USSR in the 20th century for an independent study class i'm finishing up, i am thoroughly enjoying both immensely. russia and its state of ever changing, always radical political affairs could be the most interesting of national histories to have ever played out.
on deck: jane eyre. close to moms heart therefore i must give it a whirl. a picture of dorian gray. a classic and i must read all classics. continuing in that theme i also plan to tackle vanity fair and mayor of casterbridge in the coming months.
currently watching, television edition: 1) stargate universe. the television gods that created the sci-fi (i refuse to adapt to the new, in my opinion much less cool version 'syfy') channel deserve a prodigious pay raise for this one. better than atlantis for sure. 2) community. joel mchale from E!'s the soup will forever be one of my favorite tv personalities. 3) 30 rock. while i will always be loyal to tina fey and all 4 baldwin brothers-the mostly talentless lot of fellows that they are-past seasons have started off better. come on guys, get it together! 4) it's always sunny in philidelphia. this show makes me laugh out loud. period. some of the plot lines can get a little outrageous in certain episodes (most recently the wrestling/support the troops story line. eh, i've had better) but i'll keep watching. 5) dexter. HBO has got it going on and john lithgow as the villain is a casting call i very much support. unexpected, therefore unusually creepy (there's a theme here. creepiness=good in my book. always). when is true blood season 4 starting?? 6) the o'reilly factor. this entree accomplishes both the need to stimulate my list intellectually and politically but is also a verity in my daily routine. therefore it does not serve solely as a means to excuse the catalog of imprudence laid out above.
*please note that living overseas is a more than acceptable excuse to watch copious amounts of television and never feel one bit guilty about it.
recently enjoyed, cinema edition: 1) the philadelphia story. oh i know it's cliche to glean enjoyment from seeing cary grant and audrey hepburn together on a movie screen, but i just can't help myself. loved this one. 2) when harry met sally. since moving to finland i have completed this movie no less than 6 times. and the fact that harry connick jr., my dear heart, sings most the songs on the soundtrack is an added perk. 3) seven. looks-wise brad pitt peaked here and his acting wasn't so bad either. the sloth scene has made its way into my thoughts on a number of occasions since seeing it for the first time in 2001. wonder why.
on deck: dr. strangelove. my russian history class is turning from WWII to the cold war, which i'm really excited about. in keeping with that theme i also downloaded enemy at the gates (movie about the WWII battle of stalingrad), and watchmen, which has slight cold war undertones. on the complete opposite front, i've been trying to download up for a few weeks now but disney has the monopoly on unleakable threads to the internet.
currently listening to: since i'm no great discoverer of new music and am fairly devout to the 90's, everclear and eve 6 have been dominating my playlists of late. regina spektor accompanies me on almost all my walks. michael jackson is the voice of my solo dance parties and i can't get enough of electric feel (boom boom powell playlist '09. love to my fellow nine oh niners).
*should any of you have recommendations for cool beats i can add to the list, feel free to leave your comments here. or send me the playlist in an email (i realize that begging for attention is shameless. does that make it any better?)

Bradford has become an "Always Sunny" junkie in the last couple weeks. My music recommendations: 1901 by Phoenix and anything by Passion Pit. I also love the artist Adele. Someday I will dive as deeply into cinema and literature as you do. You've always impressed me with that.
